FORMULA ONE SOLUTION TO REDUCE NOISE TRANSMISSION The luxurious Whittlebury Hall Hotel &
Spa is situated right next to the Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit in
Northamptonshire, with direct pedestrian access to the track.
Little
wonder then, that hotel guests during a recent British Grand Prix included
the likes of Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard and their families.
Whittlebury Hall was voted Best Hotel Spa of the Year in 2002 and Large
Hotel of the Year in 2003.
Built in 1998, the hotel has just completed an 80 bedroom extension through
owner operators Mace Park Developments. However, the metal decking and
concrete infill floor structure of the original building had caused impact
sound transmission problems on the tiled bathroom floor areas. Mace Park
were concerned that the extension should not suffer from the same affliction.
So after consultation with Wedi and stockists Lords Builders Merchants
in North London, the developers architects specified over 700m2
of Wedi NonStep Plan to be laid over the floor slab screed in the bathroom
areas of the new extension.
NonStep Plan is just 6mm thick and is laid as a floating floor, then overlaid
with a TT60 fibreglass mesh embedded in a thin layer of cement based flexible
adhesive mortar and then trowelled smooth ready for the tiling bed and
tiles.
NonStep Plan was chosen because it delivers an impact sound reduction
value of 14db. Andrew Marr of Mace Park Developments commented The
Wedi NonStep produced excellent results reducing noise levels between
floors in the tiled areas. We have plans to build another, ultra modern
style hotel nearby at Silverstone Science Park and we shall certainly
look to incorporate NonStep and other Wedi products in the bathroom areas.
