Wedi transforms the work of tiling

Building a Corner Bath Surround (Step 1)

Good planning is the key to making a success of this project. In this case a six-sided bath is used and it is first offered up to the corner for accurate measuring. The next job is to construct a fill-in shelf for the corner using 50mm board for the top. Here the top is being cut. It is best to score the polymer cement surface with a replaceable-blade hand knife and use an old saw.

The shelf is supported by 30mm thick offcuts siliconed to the wall which is also built with wedi Tilebacker on studding. This gives a waterproof construction ideal for wet areas.

The back shelf is complete and ready for the bath to be positioned. The top will steady the rear edge of the bath, a great help while dealing with a complex geometry.

All joints must be reinforced with wedi tape, secured with a flexible cement-based adhesive. In a position such as this, it is advisable to use wedi waterproof tape which is designed for wet areas subject to persistent water contact.
