Building a Corner Bath Surround (Step 2)
 |
At this stage the plumbing is hooked up and tested. This project
follows the continental practice of enclosing all the plumbing.
An access hatch can be cut along the tile grout lines in the event
of any fault with the pipework later. After repair, the opening
can be siliconed back into place and grouted.
|
|
When cutting the panels for the project, it is easy to mark out
the mitre angles on the edges allong with the cut lines on each
face.
Measuring up is more challenging when you are dealing with the
angles on a six sided bath, but it is easy when you follow basic
principles and check your calculations before cutting.
The angle and cut does not need to be perfect as it will be siliconed
and then taped over.

The panels on this project are of 30mm board as they are not
load bearing. Note the drawings on the floor to plan the step.
The surround is stuck to the underside of the
bath with silicone and the angled joints are
also siliconed.
The 50mm upright of the step is bonded in place.
|
|
The step is dry-fitted to make sure every part is correct before
they are bonded together.
The 50mm uprights are secured tp the floor with wedistek®
RK connectors.
50mm thick off-cuts are used as intermediate
supports at a maximum of 300mm centres.
